Campag syncroshifter help!

I have a syncroshifter which has 6 clicks / 7 speed and opened it up to see if it could be set up for 8 speed; the serrated ring has 7 and 8 stamped on both sides, so I disengaged the g springs and rotated it one notch from the number 7 to 8 and refitted the G springs ( severely fiddly! )
It all went back together but still only 6 clicks...any gurus out there? I'm out of my depth!

This shifter: http://velobase.com/ViewComponent.aspx? ... 4&AbsPos=5

the serrated ring is just metal, not the colour coded models I've seen topics about

Thanks!

I like these too. Try this for info

I suspect that you have a Black B7 insert (rather than metal - once its greasy who can tell the difference?). You'll need an 8 speed insert to make it work for 8 cogs. Or, you could take the risky route and try filing an additional notch in line with the others. Careful though, these inserts are not easy to find if you break it, and they're expensive when they do come up.

You also need to know that the inserts are matched to a specific RD as well. Your insert seems to be the Chorus RD version. I haven't tried using alternative RDs to the one that Campagnolo recommend in their literature, but there are bound to be people on here who have ;)

Definitely metal, it was very clean! it also had 7 and 8 stamped onto the face at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock next to the last 2 indents before the gap...that's why I thought they were dual speed?

Hi Chris

the notches in the insert govern the number of shifts (I'm sure you knew that), so a new or altered insert is needed I'm afraid. I had wondered if the stamps you have were 7 and B, rather than 7 and 8, but apparently not. Sadly, not dual speed.
