Campag Croc Daune Headset (British)

Re:

Has it Aluminium or steel cups and top race/lock nut then? Put a magnet to them, or weigh them-look like steel to me.
If you look at the CDA spec, it confirms it was Aluminium. I can remember CDA became the "must have" group, due to the weight saving on Record and SR and also the sexy looking (but very inefficient) Delta brakes. Campag' dropped the group, as it ate into Record sales too much. Still very desirable.

I think the clue might be in the actual individual items part numbers?

Yes indeed, quite agree!

The problem is you can't see the part number on the headset when it's fitted. Also the particular alloy they used shines up brightly, almost like chromed steel, so it can be misleading.

So is it worth £50 ?

A Chorus/CdA in top condition might be worth £50. I suggest you'd really need to take it off the bike and inspect the bearing surfaces so people can see clearly what they're buying

I thought the Athena top head tube race wasn't drilled. It's plain in the picture but looks drilled in the diagram?

Re:

Athena Steel, not drilled, CDA/Chorus Aluminium and drilled cups, can you not just knock out with an extractor to be sure, or stick a magnet on it?
