campag 10speed front mech, sprig tension?

just fitted a campag record 10 speed front mech to my steel frame bike. its the mech with an all steel cage not the one with a carbon front plate.

i am running friction shifters if its relevant.

i noticed the mech has two settings for spring tension - by rotating an allen headed spring abutment.

why would i adjust this? what is it for?

Not just Campag fr mechs. If you need a stronger tension to help dropping to the small ring it can be adjusted in, or likewise a lighter tension will give your fingers or shift levers an easier time. Use the lower tension unless you require more shifting force.
