Form a non disc convert, they look very miniscule. Would that be normal for disc brakes? From a wise old b'stard point of view I think, that will take a lot of cleaning after a muddy ride !

there are other photos that show the piston so they appear no smaller than say xtr or formula.

i find on muddy rides, the tyres and frame get covered in mud, the hubs and hence disc brakes are relatively clean in comparison.

Maybe I'm missing the point, but it just seems to add some cables to get cruddy. Hydraulics on my moderns are basically fit and forget.

Cables need changing regularly.

I think the idea is that you can use them with your existing road drop bar brakes/brifters, for cyclocross bikes etc.

Shimano have brought out some fully hydraulic road discs as well: http://road.cc/content/news/115210-shim ... l-shifting

Cables negate that.

Yeah they add better braking, I don't ride fast enough to need it.

Yeah they scupper aerodynamics, I don't ride fast enough to care.

The feel of a smooth running bike wins for me.

I may be wrong but in mechanical disc brakes, only one pad is actuated so the calliper body needs to move ot ekse pad wear is uneven. With hydraullic both pads are pushed by the fliud pressure.

On mechanicals I've used one pad moves, the other is adjusted close to the disc, the disc flexes slightly against the static pad. The static pad us adjustable for wear.

Hayes sole ate hydro but work the sane, one actuating pad.

All other hydros I've used are dual actuating pistons.

My friend has the Hope V-Twin unit on his CX bike and seems to be happy with it.
