I'm looking for an 1980s straddle cable catcher if anyone can help.

May be, I'm looking for the one that bolts to the forks and stops the straddle cable from locking a wheel when it comes off the hook on the end of the brake cable

Sorry no, but it's usually no more than a bolt with a hook of somesort on it, some were fancy with anno alloy parts or plastic bits

Syncrosfan link shows the same product I remember fitting to my Kuwahara Cascade. They were marketed in the UK as Rhino Horns iirc although any google search seems to pull a blank. Decent quality polymer (plastic) & saved my bacon at least twice when the front brake cable gave up on it's torturous route around the stem roller. :facepalm: Mine were about a fiver back then though. I think most bikes got by with the big heavy reflector bracket which was a legal requirement when exiting the shop.
