C-record large flange hubs

Nuovo Tipo would not look right on a 1990 Cinelli in my opinion. I looked through the Alphabet Campagnolo catalogs and the only group offering a high flange hubset is C-Record. If money were not an obstacle I would wait out a proper set of the C-Record hubs or perhaps go with a boutique hubset like Bulls Eye?

BTW if you think the price of sheriff star hubs are extravagant, what do you think a set in the century finish would bring?

Steven,

As always you are probably right - an expensive build needs better - i was giving an option.

Rob - check your PMs.

Nuovo Tipo and Gran Sport were Campag's cheaper offerings so were not always anodised as that cost money......so quite a bit was shiny.

Back in the late 70's large flange hubs were starting to go out of fashion, Carlton / Raleigh / etc used them but they were always a few years behind. The usual suspects were Campag, Shimano, Normandy, Suzue, Atom, Plessier, Zeus........ none of which would look right on your build apart from the Plessier Pro :)

Now they were good looking :)

It's either splash a shed load of cash on Campag large flange of the right era or run with small flange IMHO.

C-Record hubs were available in road and track versions and both were available in large and small flange versions. The C-record large flange hubs are extremely expensive today as they were almost never used back in the day. Indeed, they cost at least 10% more than the small flange variant and tehre was absolutely no advantage to them apart from aesthetics. In 1988 when I was building up a bike I needed to special order a set for my bike even though the shop I worked at had perhaps 20 sets of small flange hubs in stock. That was the same for all shops. Today, people who use vintage parts do not select them for technical merits but rather either for aesthetics or for economical reasons.
