C-record large flange hubs

Hi,

I am currently trying to get a c-record set together for a Cinelli rebuild project.

I am debating the issue of hubs currently. I like the idea of large flange hubs but am wondering which hubs would be appropriate to the era. I have considered record hubs but they seem out of keeping in style.

Is there a road version of the 'Sheriff Star' type hubs? I suppose they would also cost the earth!

Now a stupid question - can the track version of these hubs be adapted to be used with a geared bike?

Any advice on this and other options would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Shaun,

Well it's a bit of a mishmash. I have a 1990 supercorsa frameset and am looking to fit out with delta brakes, c record 1st gen rear mech, C record strada pedals, etc. stay have substitute some c record items for Athena due to affordability...

Can only find one of the Victory hubs you mention (which would be perfect) on Hilary Stone but again I think this is a pista hub and it's just the one.

Have a look at Campyoldy, Nigel can advise you if you give him a bell. You have an option of a lower level of hub Nouvo Tipo LF, I have a set and the are nice (says me! LOL)

I'll give you that, very nice.

Did you polish them yourself? A few of these available but usually with very dull finish. Same with record hubs.

Maybe I'll get some and buy some sand paper/ polishing compound...

Do you think they'd suit c-record era though? Or am I getting hung up on dates

I am not the guy to ask about dates etc i am just giving you a cheaper option. I did polish them myself and they have been rebuilt recently to go on my old Gazelle - see the headset thread. Time and effort brought them up well.

I know the Sheriff star hub is not anything you are likely to get a warranty with, but Campagnolo never intended them for road use (apparently they put notes in the boxes warning of this).

See here, courtesy of the late Mr Sheldon Brown (R.I.P) http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/record-track.html

But yes, I think there was a road version and they were the nicest looking things.
