Building a Cannondale SE 2000

Finally, my plan is coming together!

After been working at a bicycle shop for many years and selling many Cannondale’s, the Cannondale SE2000 was to me one of the most inspiring Cannondale’s ever.

I did my thesis at Cannondale and worked there for two years. I love the brand and the SE2000 was the bike that I wanted to own…

This is about 7 years ago, but the SE2000 never left my mind. 1,5 years ago I bumped into a NOS frame on Ebay USA, payed to much and fell in love when it arrived at in Holland.

Even the penalty that I had to pay to the customs did not change my mind :? .

During my search for nice parts I found the Retrobike website and I got infected by the retrobike virus. I just love this “old crap” and found my new hobby :D !

I found a reasonable priced Ritchey Logic crankset, but it needed polishing. Not perfect, actually it worked out quite well.

It took quite some time to find all the right components, missed the boats quite often and (again) payed to much for some parts that I liked a lot... But I got all parts that I wanted so the building starts.

The idea was to build the bike with as many original parts as possible. The only thing that I did not like was the wheel set. A black set looks much better on the bike to my opinion.

I found a very nice set with black M730 hubs and 36h 231 CD rims. Perfect! Last part was a nice Nitto seat post, it became a WCS version.

I had my first ride already but there were some technical problems that made it impossible for a good review.

I must say that I am very proud to own this bike, for me it is still a very iconic piece of equipment.

had one of these in the shop a while back in exactly the same condition as this one. I asked the (completely oblivious!) owner if i could fix her up and test ride it and he just let me have it! I'll look if i can find a picture. I remember the ride! it was lively and fun and love the ninetees cool it represents!

hoojea! Nice ride!
How does the Grivin Flexstem perform?

A flex-stem! I had one of those on an old Kuwahara before I got my Cirrus... wish I still had that.

Great build on the Cannondale. I think there was so much more innovation in design back in the 90s, especially with suspension, than you see today...

Re:

I was wondering if you could tell what the eye to eye length in inches the rear shock is? Thanks
