BSA Tour de France special Edition?

God yes! The chain and gears were all still a bit of a mess at that point. If you look carefully on the top photo you can see the kink in the chain where two of the links were rusted together. I didn't have a chain splitter then, so it took ages to free it off. It came from a field in Lincolnshire, and it looked a bit sorry for itself when I got it. But it came back to life really well. Here's what it looked like when I picked it up:

I think the sticker under the seat said that it was a Raleigh TI group product - does that sound right?

Yes it would have been a TI Raleigh product, badge engineered but a little different to look at. Nice to see these again, I remember them as a kid and thought they at least looked different.

Decals

Hi guys.

I'm embarking on an identical restoration project after finding my dad's TdF hiding at the back of the garage.

Any idea if it's still possible to get the BSA and Tour de France decals anywhere?

Thanks

I don't unfortunately - Lloyds don't stock them. I guess one good thing is that they're quite simple and the letters all appear to be in the same house type face with the winged B that the BSA motorcycle company used on their bikes....

...but I've no idea where you'd go about finding out what that type face is or where it can be found in electronic form. Might be worth trying one of the motorbike transfer suppliers like http://www.classictransfers.co.uk/pages ... alogue.php might be able to knock some up.

Lloyds do produce the black / white / black bands that separate the colours on the seat tube, and if you didn't mind a bit of masking, you could spray on the different shades of orange. I had to do that on my Raleigh Europa, and it worked out ok:
