I must admit, it's very, very pleasant. We're both on regular bikes with 28mm tyres, no gravel gear or nothing. Pretty minimal baggage, just changes of clothes and some electronics. Yesterday the last 10k was a bit shitty but only because it had rained overnight.
We're cycling from Marseille to Bordeaux, about 700 clicks. 80-90km a day. . And it's been great so far. The French don't holiday at all in October, so super quiet, I don't get it! But to me it's one of the finest months in southern Europe, not hot, neither too cool, shorts weather every day. One day of rain in 6 so far, and that was all done by 1pm. Forecast for the next 4 days 19-23C and very mild (17-18C) in the evenings.
Totally recommend the Voie Verte from Narbonne to Bordeaux, puts us Brits to shame. And they take bikes on nearly every train and on every bus, mostly for free... Vive la France!
