about the thieving toe rag who stole me mate's custom bike...

" On 4th August we charged a male from Knowle West with handling this
stolen frame, plus handling a stolen Trek 5200 carbon fibre racing
frame, plus handling an OnOne Prince Albert frame. He appeared at
Bristol Magistrates Court on 19th August 2009 where he pleaded guilty to
all three counts. Due to the nature of the crime and the limited
previous offending history of the offender, it was decided that the
sentence would be a 12 month Community Order. "

RESULT!! Somewhere out there for the next year a toe rag will be painting cyclepaths and mending fences instead of thieving bikes AND he's now on the police's " people we'd like to visit " list if things get nicked again.

Well done Bristol Burglary Squad!

tis true.... glad they did somthing, shame it wasnt enough....

i used to hang around with a guy a few years back... he ended up stealing my brand new kona nunu and another bike from a guy a few roads over... didnt find out untill i saw a forsale ad in town saying nearly new kona... i phoned it off a mates phone (only one who had credit) and heard my other mates voice... now suspecting something i hung up and went round when he was at work peeked over the fence and there it was chained to the drainpipe....

phoned the old bill., he told em i lent him it (even tho he tried to sell it and i denied his accusation) they let him off thru lack of evidence... although he got done a year later for having no less than 6 stolen mopeds!!!! c*nt

rant over sorry :(

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread but weirdly was doing a search for info on a Nunu!!

My question is this.

Do people really think the Bristol Burglary squad have done something wrong after,

hundreds of hours of investigation,
thousands of pounds of forensic research,
Identifying the offender(s),
arresting the offender(s),
finding and returning valuable property to its owner(s),
hundreds more man hours of investigation and paperwork,
countless detection of multiple crimes,
and probably more that I cant think of!

Or is it far more likely that after all of this that the criminal justice system in this country is shocking? That magistrates are far too lenient? Is there perhaps something more the police could have done in this case to not receive the sarcasm?

Don't get me wrong. This is their job! But I happen to think that they are doing it better than the Evening Post would have some people believe.

I had a lovely Nicolai Helius stolen during a burglary (a very invasive type crime). The Bristol Burglary squad were superb, finding and arresting the offender over 8 months later, returning my pride and joy.

Just wanted to put in some support for the boys in blue based on my experiences!

:D

Well, all I can say is that the dear old soul can't be the sharpest tool in the shed if he admitted to thieving an "OnOne Prince Albert frame"...

Good to hear, I live in South Bristol and am now starting to own bikes, so this is comforting news indeed :)

There's a real problem with bike thefts in Bristol - we've had 4 stolen from outside our office, near the city centre,in the last year or so. You can take no chances - make sure you lock it to something solid!( most of the thefts from outside our offices happened due to people locking bikes to a railing that wasnt secure.)
Also anyone using the Bristol to Bath cycle path should be aware of the risks of being hijacked (mainly at the Bristol end.)
With regards to the police - I have had no sense that they take any inteterest in bicycle theft. Even when the thieves came into my house to steal a bike they didnt respond.......
