... I wonder why the variation?

Headset selection will be an interesting one for you. If you're going for a Suntour build get a King. If you're going Shimano, get an M902 XTR. I've got the latter in mine. Picked it up for a song but they're over $US100 now!

Luckily I already have a black CK Devolution sitting on the shelf, so I just need to pickup the 2Nut or Grip Nut conversion kit as soon as it's back in stock. I have noticed the prices for the XTR ones on the rise.

Doesn't the devolution reduce the 1 1/4" frame to accommodate a 1 1/8" fork? If so, you won't he able to fit that beautiful fork! You could always give it to me... ;)

Funny you mention seatpost size -- that was an issue for me because the seller advertised it as taking a 27.2. Nope. felixdelrio told me 27.0 (that's what his takes). Nope. Mine takes a 26.8. Not sure why there's a difference?

Mine takes a 31.6 seatpost !!!

Yes, but only by using the bearing top cap/preloader (whatever the official name of it is). The cups are standard 1 1/4", so I simply need to find the 1 1/4 2Nut or Grip Nut conversion kit and then I'll be all set. Sorry. ;)

 What year is yours? Is there a way to decipher the year of manufacture from the serial number?

1992 (I think), filed welds, welded cable stops instead of riveted, has '92' as part of serial number. They all seem quite random to me :?

Mine (formerly Lid's) takes a 26.8 pillar & (correct me if i'm wrong) is a '92.

I think we need a "Show me your Funk" thread so we can get all these bikes in one place. So far we have 26.8, 27.0, and 31.6 for seatpost sizes.

@mr ship: Does yours have the welded or machined cable stops?

@Arran: Wow, you worked some magic by polishing that frame! I found your build thread and you did a great job.

Did the welded cable stops begin in '92, or are the configurations really as random as they seem with these bikes?
