Brand/trans x vs reverb dropper

I've not got around to fitting my freshly serviced reverb, but have read good things about the brand/trans x IRC dropper. I like the fact its cable actuated so easier to fit and fettle, plus it gets good reviews, often rated more highly than the reverb.

I don't really need one aside from to fill the holes in an internally routed frame, plus I'd like to try a dropper similar actually riding a bit more now.

Reverb or trans/brand x - discuss.

Had a cheap external cable dropper. Never let me down.

See what I did there?

Actually it was excellent and was on my go to bike. Until it was stolen.

Re:

I wouldn't get one to replace the Reverb but I'd consider one instead of a Reverb if that makes sense.

They are budget droppers that perform well by all accounts but they are still budget if that bothers you. The best quality dropper I've had was the Thomson. Lovely build quality.

Re:

I've not fitted anything to the bike yet, so not technically replacing. Seems it would be easier with the cable than the hydraulic hose, plus I'm on the margin of minimum height on the reverb as its 125mm drop and just at the right height for me. Seen a brand x for a God price with 100mm drop which should give me better options height wise. I can use a crank bros lever as well as I have a spare one. Just thought it might be easier and probably zero cost as I can sell the reverb in freshly serviced condition.

I'd have almost anything over the reverb (or at least the older ones, I don't know if the new ones are better). Mine has a persistant sag of about 1cm which neither I or the bike shop can fix.

Re:

Ah right. To be honest I've had a few Reverbs and have never found them any more difficult to instal as any other providing you have the bleed kit. I know they did have a bad rep but all mine worked fine. Saying that, they never felt especially special considering what they cost.

I currently have a Fox Transfer which has been suberb and a step up from the Reverb. I've not had a need to buy a dropper for a few years since I got it so am not up to date with the latest gear but used Reverbs didn't seem to make that much (especially 125mm which is short by current standards) so I wouldn't necessarily expect to buy a new Trans X with the proceeds. If you're looking at second hand Trans I'd just keep what you have.

I have a Tranz-X with a cable port external fitting, on my 2009 Dawg, it works well. I'm thinking of getting another one for my Giant Anthem, but internally routed as the frame accepts internal routing. Only thing that I don't like on the original is the old style lever, I'd prefer the southpaw style.
