So I bought my first retro mtb.

A Scott summit.

Seems to be a mid tier bike?

A mix of stx and xt.

Rims are Mavic 238’s (no idea if these are budget or mid end wheels)?

Tange steel???

The plan is to do some commuting and possibly some of these retro xc races or midweek summer races.

If I try a few races what wheel set should I be looking out for ?

Apart from wheels and swapping the saddle I don’t think it would be worth changing or upgrading anything else.

Yep, middle class bike, but pretty solid condition from the looks of it. No need for a different wheelset IMHO if the rims are not worn down. Give the hubs a service (fresh grease), check the spoke tension and off you go! Front wheel has a bent spoke though, you may want to change that.

The size is fine (hadn't adjusted the post and stem0
before the photo)

...however, I just noticed the dropout is warped.

Any ideas?

Big washer?

just done 10 mile and didn’t die. Thing is it didn’t cost much and probably cost a fair bit to repair. Might look for a frame and swap stuff over
