Bottom bracket problem

Maybe this could be the cause of the extra space then?? Weren't they slightly longer to allow for the front mech bracket?

The BB is un55, not un55e, and the gap is to small for e-type FDs plate.

I will check if I have one of those plastic spacers that come with Hollowtech II BBs. In the meantime the most important thing is that everything sits really well as it is.

Re:

This is fine.

The BB unit screws tight against the BB shell on the drive side. The cup on the non-drive side tightens against the BB unit to lock it in place.

The flange on the cup isn't necessary, and that 'gap' means nothing. Plenty of similar square taper Shimano BB units have no flange on the non-drive side cup.
