Bottom Bracket Problem

As the left crank started to continually come loose, I ggled the problem and of course there were lots of posts about it. I knew the crank arm and BB had had a LOT of use and so knew to replace them.

Anyway, I've now ordered a 115mm width BB. Let's hope it solves the problem.

Installed the 115mm BB and it sorted the problem. On the drive side, there's a slight gap between the outer edge of the BB and where is screws into the frame i.e. there was some length left over from the 115mm BB screwing into a smaller fitting on the frame. Anyway, it works, ta.

Re:

Not quite sure what you are meaning by smaller fitting. But pictures may help.

If it works though and your happy with how it works then :)

"smaller fitting" - sorry, I wasn't making sense - the BB shell width is 68mm.

What I was trying to say was that there's a slight gap between the outer edge of the BB (on drive side) and where it screws into the frame - as in I couldn't screw it any further in. I'm concerned water might be able to penetrate into the BB unit?

Re:

It could just be something on the threading in the shell (bit you are scrweing into)
If you have any old metal bottom brackets, clean the threading up and use that to help clear the threads. It could be dirt or a rusted up part.
It normally should go in.

The loose cup side doesn't always GI in, sometimes a mm or so of threads are showing.

What make model did you buy.?
