Bontrager Race Lite 1993/94 - new paintjob Page 9

Looks right because it looks black at first glance in the top photo.

I mean that in a good way!

Not too grape-y!

Is this color a purple or a blue? I remember salivating over the first Bontrager I ever saw in a bike shop, and I could have sworn my eyes saw very dark blue. Did they make a dark blue, too, or was this the color I saw?

This one's purple, but they did do a dark metallic blue too. There are examples of both on eBay right now.

re-assembled the bontrager today and added a couple of finishing touches that were irritating me - replaced the rear mech with one with standard pulleys, fitted some period pedals and clips and replaced the lock on grips with some WTB original grips - a modern remake of the original '90s ones.

Also got a bit more use out of my new headset press, so please excuse the gratutious tool shot

unfortunately applying the decals was a complete disaster. at so many of times of telling other people on here that they've put the decals on the wrong way round, what did I do? correct!.

I checked, double checked, looked at photos of my previous bike and *still* but them on back to front. I realised half way though applying the bottom panel, which I then screwed up because I was so angry with myself. Anyway, I attempted recovery on the top panel and its OKish, but it will be getting replacement decals in the very near future.

the paint however, looks fab. Its not metallic and its very difficult to photograph, but there's almost an optical illusion where your eyes are telling your brain its black and your brain is saying "you sure about that?" I love it.

Mate, I'm trying not to laugh about the decals... It was almost fate I suppose!

Thing is: who gives a shit!?

You'll get new ones eventually and be happy, and it's just another fun little project for another day anyway.

Nice to always have something to do on a bike, I think! I get a bit bored once they're "finished".

And meanwhile, you have to be chuffed with everything else?

Paint looks absolutely amazing, and you've now got what you always wanted.

Such a great colour and so glad you pulled the trigger on it.

WTB grips look class on there too, I think!
