Sorted Bits to complete a build - short cranks, brakes, shifter, cassette

Trying to complete a build on a kids bike at the moment and I'm short of a few parts. Nothing fancy required since it'll be outgrown as soon as I know it - I'm thinking mid-range Shimano or equivalent, though I can consider slightly nicer if it's at a decent price! What I need is:

A set of fairly short cranks that I can use with a 1x chainring. 165mm would be great if I can find some (I doubt there's anything shorter than that around). Condition not that important and I'm not committed to any specific type, though I do have a couple of spare HT II bottom brackets so something Shimano HT II would be handy.

A set of disc brakes (ideally hydraulic brakes) - again nothing special required, but functional/reliable is important. Again Shimano is probably ideal but others considered. It's an XS 26er frame, so the hoses can be short, I imagine I'll need to cut the hoses and bleed them anyway.

A rear trigger shifter, compatible cassette (Shimano HG fit) and maybe a rear mech. I have a 9-speed Shimano rear mech I could use, but happy to go with a 10 or 11 speed. It would be good to have a cassette that goes up to at least 36t which is already pushing it at 9-speed, even better 40t.

NOW SORTED - cheers

I've got the drive train left over from my eldest son's bike that he outgrew. I sold the frame (small hardrock) and forks but have the rest. Brakes are deore, and have 10sp deore shifter, mech and I think it's an SRAM cassette. All did very few miles. It's been sat in a box in the garage since the split. I was going to use it for his next bike, but ended up giving him a build I did for myself that turned out to be too small for me, and lucky for him in all it's xt glory.

For short cranks check out Box Five cranks. They are sq taper and for junior BMX. Sizes 130-170mm and sold on ebay. A bit spendy, but do come up second hand. Another option for super short are Crupi USA cranks. I know they go down to 140mm (maybe lower) and again for junior BMX and the vintage ones are sq taper.

Box 5 and vintage Crupi are both 5 arm 110bcd.

Another one i know of is Miche Young cranks. These go down to 125mm BUT the chainrings are 5 arm 116bcd so not so easy to play with ring sizes. Sq taper. Just remembered....i have 1-2 rings for these. Can't remember what size they are but are barely used.

New options at 165mm are XD2(110bcd with a hidden bolt) and RD2(130bcd 5 arm not hidden) cranks from Spa Cycles. I think they are £30 a pair without rings. I am sure Spa had them in a shorter length like maybe 160, but i might be wrong on that count.

Got those GOLDIX 🤭 cranks on my boys bike, very impressed with the quality including built in guard and BB.

Went with a 10 speed Shimano Deore cassette, mech and shifter and M445 disc brakes for a quality and robust yet not expensive build. Ian’s set he mentions above will be great on a kids bike 👍

My sons still got another bike size to go through before he’ll fit this but can never be too ready!
