Actually biopace doesn't affect chain length. If you spin the pedals backwards on a bike equipped with wonky rings the rear mech doesn't move at all.

That's because over any 180 degree section of the ring that the chain is engaged with the same number of teeth come into play.

Try it if you don't believe me!

ok, i believe you.. i dont want to try either, both s.spd & biopace arent worth the effort ;) :LOL:
 
You do not need a tensioner with a biopace chainring in single speeding.
The ring is oval not circular but the number of teeth is the same on both.
The chain does not go tight, slack, tight, slack etc etc
I know I've tried it.
Magic would be required to decrease and increase the the number of teeth on the ring at each point of its rotation. :roll:
