Lance Armstrong's? A likely story, and I bet he never walked on the moon either...

Ba Dum TssWasn't that his uncle Neil??
on page one i mentioned the owner died, shame on him for not having a family member more capable of selling his bike
Now i wasn't friends with him personally, i know other riders in my area that were and do a memorial ride for him. The bike was cherished and rather sensibly it sounds like he managed to avoid having a huge collection of tat like myself and instead kept to 3 or so modern bikes and this one. Actually i think there was a steel Pricipia 650c tri bike too.
As for value of course its hard to determine a 'fair' value. Some of the provenance is lost with the departed mans knowledge of where and how he got it. The friend or family seller is probably also fed up with people making low-ball offers. Its not that much of an uncommon scenario and as someone that worked in a bike shop i would occasionally have someone walk in, talk about a collection of bikes from their loved one and some tentative dance starts up about valuation. They might mention a brand, show you some blurry pic, you might give them some breadcrumbs of information and then never hear from them again. Sometimes you would see an ebay listing with some of what you told them transcribed..
If it had been authenticated as for a particular rider it would probably go to a specialist auction. If you want a frame painted like this, Arthur van Rooij can do you a spot on repaint on a real Merckx frame. Or any of the other team colorways for that matter. That will probably cost you 4 figures and yet just wont have the same mystique about it. If you go to a frame builder and want a steel frame built it'll also cost you a fair bit these days and yet our treatment of the used steel scene in the UK seems to be self defeating.
Its a team bike but doesn't have a name sticker on it. The team was absolutely full of hitters and not just Lance, tragedy, controversy etc etc. It also looks pretty correct parts wise. The wheels are one area where maybe it could be improved. The downfall has been the seller turning down a 'reasonable' offer early on when the market was more buoyant - this bike has been for sale for several years. Other bikes in the garage (modern) were listed high, didn't sell and now with depreciation have realized a lower figure than they could have. Excuse my poorly written essay but in all honesty i do wish somebody would take this bike on, ride it occasionally in the sunshine and be happy.
