My late 90s all mtn full susp ride with wide tires weighs under 9 kg (<20 lb).. It's my heaviest bike, quite the drag, and I wouldn't definitely not say it's light wight

Are definitely not saying that you wouldn't not say it isnt not lightwejght?

Under 9 kg for all mtn fs - is it single speed, do you have break down of weights?

are you sure your scales are accurate, seems low to me.

For a shop bought bike, I would say around 7.5kgs or just under.

Loss of weight is one of those minimal gains things, it is easy to get a road bike to 8kgs, sensible kit will get it down to 7.5kgs and after that it et expensive, just look at the price of wheels.

Re:

Often massive weight reductions can be made much closer to home. How much of your feet can you see without bending at the waist? :p

Ah but a lighter bike lets me eat a bigger pre-ride Full English breakfast.

Haha.. nope, 24 speeds.. of course scale's accurate, but maybe my definition of all mtn wasn't.. so many categories, thought all mountain was a new term for cross country, like the name suggests, but seems all mtn just is the term for chicken downhill.. my mistake.. my 9 kg fs is a cross country bike

I have my dream set on an all rigid steel 7,5kg 24 speeds retro mtb, but that one frame never seems to pop up  fully doable though.. I've landed another all steel on 8.2kg, and it's my best ride.. I've succeeded climbs with that one that I never did in my youth :) weight matters

More like it. I guess it's something like a ti bow. Short travel titanium. Boutique build.

I had a proto softail ti for one race, that was about 21/22 lbs, xtr/SIDs/team issue build. Move on 10 years my full carbon, fully loaded trail bike is only 23lbs. (Ok, it's not any more, I nicked a load of the bits off it to build another bike. ........)

My 27 spd Ti hardtail with sids, Crossmax and 970 XTR is 10.1 kg.

I could have chopped a bit more out of it by compromising it a little with tyres etc (currently on 2.2 x-king race sport and stans) but shedding another 1.1 kg and adding rear suspension ? no chance with my build ... :-(

WD :D

my merlin has been 20.xlb rigid and 21.xlb with SIDs, and it's about as light as Ti MTB frames get.

I could easily have ditched another 200-300g from that build tho, or built a 17lb bike using all modern parts
