aren't these all rental bike scheme bikes? we've seen similar (albeit not to that extend) pictures from the UK where boris bikes, zips, zooms, and all the other gone to the wall schemes have been chucked in the same spot. it's not really bike waste, it's the attempt to make money from buying cheap and renting that's the issue.

not saying there isn't a ton of bike waste a year mind, how many plastic frames get disposed of a year do you reckon?

Great video. I started off being sceptical as I don't think the bicycle industry is the most offensive when it comes to built-in obsolescence, poor recycling, lack of sustainability practices etc. But by the end, I was thinking that the bike industry could lead the way for other industries and become a poster child for the circular economy. It's small, often filled with boutique practices that people are willing to pay more for and probably has a user base which is more interested in sustainability than other sectors. That wouldn't tackle the big box stores shifting BSOs, but I suspect it would much easier to get legislation through targeting the bike industry than say others because it would be regarded as relatively insignificant and have few counter lobbyists.
