Bike snobbery - or is it?

Thats not in the least bit patronising.

"Hi there, new here, just wondered if you could help me with this new GT i bought?"

"Oh, er, sure, yeah, thats great, a really good one, Talera yeah? great bike. Erm, might be best to put it in the section marked 'BSO' though?"

"Righto. What does 'BSO' mean by the way?"

"Oh, that? its just where we put the really special bikes, I mean all the bikes are "special", but this is just where new people with bikes like yours can go. You'll be fine there, we'll call, promise."

Actually that's a perfect example of the snobbery already exhibited on here - and it's not limited to Retrobike, but every forum out there...

I refer specifically to the 'Newbie' posting a question that has been seen many times before - they either get ignored completely, or brusquely directed to the 'search' facility.

What's wrong with a polite reply, with a link to said previous thread/s?

Huh?

Asking a commonly asked question is irritating though stevo.....like when people stand trying my shop door when the sign says "in the cafe" and the sign is right infront of their nose :x

Saying that though I often try to help newbies out......

If I post pics of my bikes up ,the amount moved into the BSO section would be a far from gentle hint

Bike snobbery is about liking good bikes not expensive ones. There have been many expensive BSOs (the first Trek FS, the cannondale EST etc).

.

2 of mine in there already

Oh believe me, I get more than my fair share of stoopid people during the course of my day - every day! But patience is, indeed, a virtue - and costs nowt...

Ah yes Mikee but in this thread a bike we both own has been described as a BSO regardless of its technical interest and historical significance ie our Trek 9000 series bikes. Plus although my fave bike is rather smart its still a Raleigh the original and best BSO making king of the world

Oh and I love We-Are-Stevo's title, being referrred to as Stevo myself by some folk it greatly amuses me
