Bike snobbery - or is it?

but also isn't it the point that companys that provide the finer examples that some in here consider art...only exists by mass multiple cheaper object sales?

those that survive on the top end ..seem to be fast going under

Back in the day when Klein started making bikes aimed at the mountain biking fraternity, I think they were motivated by excellence.

That is what we need more of, regardless of how big the manufacturer.

:)

I agree but I don't think that's where the money is. No money, no bikes. :(

excellent costs

and as we have seen many times in rb..everyone wants a bargain at half the cost of what it costs

look at kleins..falling quite a bit unless you have an absolute rare and mint one..the money isn't there and won't be for a while

as a buyer it's great news..as long as you didn't purchase it new

I'm reminded of harley davidson riders

many harley owners think they are the nuts..above all motorcyclists..never wave or join in on anything other than harley meets..of course they will only be on dry days as they don't want to get the princess dirty

motorcycling is kept alive by honda, suzuki etc and the biggest selling bikes of the mass companys..are not exotica...but the everyday stuff allows such companies to make exotica

so who is the true motorcyclist..those that polish queenie and perhaps on a dry day let those priceless bits out

or those who with a 23 quid piece of poo get out everyday and ride the hell out of it with a smile on thier mush

judge the other if you need too..but make no mistake..the two cannot exist without each other

just a note that the lovely bikes found in India and Sri Lanka are absolutely useless in the UK. My friend was going to import them but the samples barely survived the trip over let alone harsh UK mud and rain.

There are some examples of this, but there are plenty of examples of companies still in existence that only produce top end stuff. Pace, the world of handmades & others stand testament to this.

I hold my hand up, I am a bike snob, however I dont take an interest in price, my interest is in the design & engineering of a bike. I like oddities, and I like them well made. These qualities tend not to appear in the mass produced & cheaper models or manufacturers. That isn't to say I don't have emotional softspots for the brands I grew up riding though.

Good point, well made.
