I know saracens had a similar rear u brake design so that was my first thought. I don't know a lot though

im sure ive had old ridgebacks that had the same rear brake down there but there was something specific to the seat stays on ridgebacks...cant remember what but they used to break a lot : /

my yellow 1988 saracen tufftrax had the same u brake

1989 bear valley, pine mountain, palisades had the same u brake, 1988 ridgeback 603,1988/89?rockhopper...

Don't have a clue what it is, but chain stay mounted u-brakes were not uncommon in the late '80's so you're not going to identify it that way. That seat cluster, & the drop out are probably a better place to start.

That is exactly what I did, the dropout and seat clamp are the same
