Bike identification

Hi

I have always believed that this frame was a Carlton.

It had Carlton transfers on when I bought it back in 1982 and it was 2nd hand then IIRC.

I have SCOURED the internet for weeks and cannot seem to identify it as either a Raleigh or a Carlton.

The seat stays are rather special. Very elongated and there appears to be a join in them.

The only code on the bottom bracket is GO3 6 or G03 6

I think this means it is a Gazelle built Carlton or Raleigh from 1973.

Someone out there must have an identical frame.

There are no braze-ons other than a pin to locate the downtube shifters.

Once I work out how to upload or link photos on iPhone I will post some.

Frame weighs 2110 grams with the now knackered SR Laprade Extra Super Light. Damn shame as they aren't cheap to buy NOS.

Forks weigh 701g.

Tubing I would imagine is therefore 531 at those weights.

Front dropouts are Campagnolo with eyelets (filed off it would seem).

Rear dropouts - no markings.

Crown possibly Wagner though I will stand corrected.

Brake and chainstay bridges are just a rolled flat plate. Crap really.

The bottom bracket looks as though it was from a flat sheet unless someone cut it through, heated it up, shrunk it and retapped it?

The forks seemed to have been 3/4 chromed though I cannot recall that. Also it was yellow when I bought it originally but again may have been resprayed already.

Looks like the forks don't match, having campy dropouts and look like they were chromed. Not sure Raleigh would have used the type of brake bridge and stay support you have. Not seen that before. G for Giant on the serial number? Made for someone to put their own transfers on???

Frame has a Puch look to it from the early to mid 70's, the forks are from a better frame as suggested.

Giant started in 72. Not saying it is Giant made but looks more mass made. Gazelle a possibility, Dutch made? What are the thread sizes?

It did have Carlton transfers on.

The forks looks like Raleigh Professional Mk. V.

And G stands for Gazelle Holland on Raleigh and Carlton serial numbers.

As I am from Nottingham, you never would have a bike which wasn't Raleigh or Carlton.

Perhaps the frame is 1950's or 1960's.

Those seat stay caps are very unusual.

Rear dropouts look cast and possibly changed? Eyelets ground or filed off? I would get them looked at before painting or powdercoat.
