Bicycles do have great longevity, especially if looked after.

Even if their not aswell my raleigh ace has all the original parts, apart from tyres and brake blocks. Its a solid old beast. Think that when I nipped the headset up the other day it was the first time that had been touched.

Watches and Jewelry are items with more longevity and value.

Going back to bikes, if well looked after they will outlast humans for the mere
principle that the Human energy that drives them is either diminishing with age or exhausted.

It's easy to get parts for bikes. An old frame will accept modern parts from many different manufacturers. It's much harder to find the right part for an old car.

Everyday object that goes on forever has to be a house, i live in a victorian and Edinburghs chock full of Georgian and before houses still being lived in.

As for bikes, in this country the classic lugged steel Raleigh in its various guises just goes on and on. Many 1940's roadsters are still plodding along with their sturmey archer 3 speed hubs
