Best way to clean up my P7 frame please

Bikes all stripped and the kit ready to go back on but what's the best way to clean the frame up?

It's not in bad condition with little surface rust. I rubbed some tinfoil on the top tube and it brought off some of the lacquer leaving bare shiny patches.

Shall I continue with this method or employ some fine wire wool and autosol onto it? Altho won't the wire wool scratch the bare frame?

And once it's back to bare metal will I need to relacquer? The bikes goin to be a garage queen and won't see the elements if that helps?

Thanks

I have a Marin Team with a nickel finish that needed the same treatment and I finished it recently using the following method.
I'd highly recommend getting some paint stripper (the cheap Wilkos stuff is fine for the job) and taking the laquer off completely. Then a chrome polish or fine compound with maybe the wire wool or (my preference) 1500/2000 grit wet and dry for removing any stubborn rust spots. Then a final polish with chrome cleaner all over.

The nickel plating is pretty tough so you won't do it any damage unless you use something very coarse. I wouldn't bother replacing the laquer, just give it a t cut once in a while to keep it shiny and don't let it sit wet.

lol, 2 completely different perspectives :-/

after trying again with some tin foil i just cant see how it can shift the lacquer. granted i didnt have no coke to hand, does this act as a lube to help lift the lacquer?

i can see how the stripper will soften the lacquer so it comes off.

dad said out some heat to it? :-/ he is more usted to building ships tho! lol
