Those saddles gave us many happy customers, and were cheap enough trade so we could just swap out the blokey saddle so many nice new bikes came with.

Velo was it? Stamped in the base.

WTB SST 98 without a doubt the best saddle I have ever used and have never found one as good.

Fantastic saddle (but with ridiculous branding!), just below a WTB Shadow V Stealth for me. Never got on with Flites.

Used to love the SDG Ventura saddle in the nineties, most of my bikes now have Charge Spoons or Fabric Scoops, inexpensive (and comfortable for me), shout out for the Fabric Cell though, have one on my commuter, dead comfy!

Nick Larsen, founder of charge, sold the cycle brand to csg which then largely dismantled it, it probably crossed over with other brands they owned. (like all city - salsa/surly and QBP)
- he went on to found Fabric - good at saddles

Iirc the earlier ones, before all that decorative stuff, said "velo" and a date stamp

aye 08/09, so aug 2009 looks like.
Threaded hole? Never seen it so it must be unusual.
Answers on a postcard...

Maybe a light bracket or inner tube/tool mount option that got designed in but never marketed?

I use both Brooks cambium and leather.
C17 cambium for winter B 17 leather for summer.
Rolls are OK.
Any saddle that doesn't give me a bsa is fine.

Bottoms up or should it be down .

Another Flite user here. Over the years I've ridden various sorts - Brooks Swallow, Professional and Team Professional, Concor, Turbo, Unicanitor - to name a few but the Flite just feels 'right' to the point that after not being able to get on with 3 or 4 no-name modern saddles I tried I hunted eBay for an original 1990s gel Titanium for my general use bike to match the one on my Master. There's a slightly different 90s Titanium model on the MTB but as I hardly ever ride that it doesn't really count.
