I had a set of those Barelli 280 cleats, the theory behind the stepped design was that it would stop you overshooting the pedal cage when putting your feet in clips. Can't say that I noticed any difference. What I did discover was that if the soles of your shoes weren't stiff enough, walking on the cleats would cause them to bend and close up the slot meaning that you had to prise them open before being able to remount.
187 cleats were similar but unstepped, whilst the B10 cleat were specific to the B10 pedal.

The "other" Wedge-Lock cranks — steel, cottered, arms are tubular, brazed to the pieces at the BB spindle end and the pedal thread end.

I must admit I absolutely hated cottered cranks, ever since I had to ride 30 miles as a youth with one side slipping on a worn axle. Kerr-klunk, Kerr-klunk, Kerr-klunk, for thirty sodding miles... 😂😂😂

Thanks for that Bulgie, I thought we'd never see actual photos of those super rare cranks 👌

Wedge-Lock leaflet. Be sure to look at the cartoon near the bottom, p.4.

And check out their advertising claims, here are a few of my favorites:

* Pure racing stuff — not for "Promenade Percies" or "coffee-bar cowboys" [ hey I'm offended, I'm a proud coffee-bar cowboy!! ]
* real AD 2001 construction [ how did they know we'd all be racing on cottered steel cranks in 2001? Amazing! ]
* Saves you from the misery of softish and flexy aluminium alloy cranks [ I guess that includes Wedge-Lock aluminium cranks? ]
* We guarantee you will NOT win without Wedge-Lock [ you guarantee that? My money back if I do win without Wedge-Lock? ]
