I'm in the process of building a road bike for my girlfriend, i was given a Kenisis superlight? frame, might have been badged a GT? I've recently built a 1954 Flying Scot and an early 90's ALAN(current rBOTM entry) the Kenisis frame is more modern, more suited to a index system and i have no knowledge of this set-up, i haven't even ridden one of these machines from the future 
so whats best (performance, ease of use, reliability, setting up) the early 8 speed or later 9,10,11 speed? Campag or Shimano? I'm trying to build on a budget so looking to buy 'used'(cheapish) system, any tips/info greatly appreciated.
