I think the best sound was when I sawed out a seized quill stem from a Reynolds 653 fork. A loud popping sound that rewards you for the 2 hours hard labor put in.
The best smell would be some NOS gum rubber brake hoods that had a white powder all over them to keep um' fresh. The worst smell, well that would have to be taking off the cover of an old saddle. Years of sweat and salts absorbed by the sponge suddenly hit you in the face, bahhh!
