I think the reason why I personally like so many of these older bikes (apart from the colours) I think the thin tube frames as a certain lightweight and sleek look to them, whereas I find the much larger diameter down tubes and slightly larger top tubes (don't want to be fat shaming frames) on more recent bikes quite unappealing visually.
Disclaimer, Im definitely not trying to start an old vs new debate here folks Im just saying what I like about these old bikes and what best means to me

It's a fascinating thing that many of the bikes in this thread are the mass-market bikes of (for many of us) youth.
They had fantastic paint, both the gloss and the colours.
But the mechanical equipment was incredibly basic, although capable of working (albeit poorly) for a very long time with an amount of care.

The overall designs were extremely conservative, until raleigh burst out with a load of very cool looking kids and teenagers bikes
- but this was to be their swansong.

Soon they were to be made irrelevant by American influence and far East manufacture...

What size Serengetti do you want? I've seen that model for sale here in Vancouver in the past.

I'm usually on a large, at least 18". Unfortunately, I'm not really in buying mode right now, finances less than optimal. When I say "want" I usually mean "it'd be nice if one of these fell in my lap for a bargain "
