grabbed this decidedly ratty and unloved German trekking bike for a restoration and conversion...

...bear with me on this one - it has scope.

stripped and cleaned ready for replacement parts all round:

this turned out ok, decided to keep it retro not restomod and so plumped for genuine 80s Nitto bull moose, suntour ratchet shifters and deerhead mech , plus a period chainset. New square taper BB and 1" threaded headset, but went for new cables and tyres as modern tubeless ready rubber is somewhat desirable versus cruddy old touring tyres in 700C.
Some new ritchey brake blocks mean it will stop ok versus dodgy originals - the cantis were ok and just needed a good clean and some new springs.

shakedown ride this morning - shifting is working aok despite some >40 year old parts and ratchet shifters are still sublime. this thing rides like a giant MTB and is as tall as a dutch cruiser on 28" rims. clunker style with some stance , comfortable enough to cruise around town - not sure what it would be like climbing up anything challenging...
