Beautiful TIG Welds

There's a fine art to a good weld, I should know, I've been in the motor trade for 25 years & I'm still crap. Sure I can stick metal together & sometimes even get a good run, but on the whole, it's just rubbish.
Welding is the thing that everybody thinks looks easy, it does look easy when you see a pro at work - just you have a go........ ;)

I'm afraid I have to call you out here bud, Gas tungsten arc welding is pretty much welding!

But very well could be, as majority of production is aluminium frames I think.
I wonder how so clean welds are achieved and that it isn't all warped.
Aluminium transfer heat and soon all workpiece becomes VERY hot.
Then it becomes difficult to keep straight line if You burning fingers even through thick welding glove. :oops:

The flask was rubbed down, as I call it with scotchbrite abrasive pads after weld, then degreased with some solvent like acetone or alcohol.

The manifold was tacked, scotchbrite rubbed, degreased, then welded. At the edges you can still see the white etching cloud. John Marcella leaves them that way. I kind of like it too.

Here is an example of mine, with white etching cloud rubbed off with scotchbrite;

To keep the distortion to a minimum, look at the direction of the welds. Make a big difference. Most qualified weld procedures have weld mapping.
