I have noticed that some of the so called higher end frames have some pretty industrial looking TIG welds. Since this was considered a step on from brazed (sexy welding par excellence), I had a wee look at my fats and really started to appreciate the quality of the welding.

I thought it would be nice to have a thread that celebrated the much overlooked skill of Gas tungsten arc welding- post your pics up of your favorite frame details :D

Is the fat Powdered or painted, can i ask?

I can lay down some runs with the hot metal glue gun like the best of them, it's what I do for a living.

Yet for me, the most esoteric frame bonding technique is brazed and lugged. Go figure?! :?
Maybe it's because I'm too critical of a TIG weld and can spot flaws under the paint? Who knows

I like Rourke's technique with Reynolds 853. They TIG the joins and then blend them in with braze and attach all the cable guides etc with silver solder.

Nice welding Bren, I used to MIG, stick and gas weld (as well as braze), but I never learned to TIG.

I'm afraid I have to call you out here bud, Gas tungsten arc welding is pretty much welding!

Gas welding is rarely/never(?) used in frame fabrication

Tungsten or TIG is the weld of choice these days

Arc is not a frame builders method either

And neither is MIG, you either TIG or braze!

I'm fairly sure gas tungsten arc welding is another name for tig welding
