BB question - axel length for a 93 cindercone

neilforrow

Retro Newbie
I got given a borked bb with the frame, i assumed it is correct, so I got in a 68 x 118mm un55. Nope, the chainset fouls the chanstay...

What axel length do I need, any ideas? or how do I work it out?

Cheers

Neil.

bb axle

It will depend on the chainset. Have a look on sheldonbrown.com as there is a section on there with chainsets and compatible axle sizes.

If it's a Sugino then around 113-115 worked for me.

Here are the cranks:

Have a look on the other side of the crank arms and it'll have a model number. Then refer to the sheldon brown chart and you'll find the one you need.

122.5mm

possibly moving to 127mm at a stretch.

Normal / Standard profile cranks range of size is 122 to 127.

You need to move to the low profiles to get to the 113 to 118 sizes and the superlow are 107 to 113... * (in shimano naming)

Given 118mm the next size down didn't work, it makes it easy.

(118 to 122 bugger knows what they call them ;))

LavaDome ... blue rear, then it sugino XD 450 chainset if original and would have come with a 122 Shimano cartridge bottom bracket ?
(I was going to leave it at just 122.5 but heyho, I kept on typing  )

Here is the detail:
