BB Fixed cup vs Record 1ton 4”vise

Welding a bar onto the cup is unbeatable, but you can put enough torque into it to either tear the face off the cup (then dremmel the remains out) or pull the threads out of the frame.
Frame threads should be softer than the cup threads, and aluminium offers little resistance.

Fortunately I was working with a steel cartridge BB in a steel frame. It'll be replaced with another steel cartridge BB, no way am I going to use Aluminium cups, and I'll be introducing the frame to the delights of grease for what I suspect will be the first time in it's life.
