I am selling this modern Bates Hellenic frame on behalf of a friend of mine.
24" C-T Bates frame, with Diadrant front forks and Hellenic style rear triangle.
I have contacted Ray Etherton who owns the rights to the Bates name, who said the frame was built for him by Ron Cooper in about 2001, Ray himself fitting the stays and braze-ons as at the time Ray operated the "Classic Bikes " business, and Ron part built the frames for him.
After owning the frame for a few years Ray sold it on, and I assume it was my friend who purchased it subsequently, although it may possibly have passed through other owners in between.
Only a handful of these were built in this style so this is an extremely rare frame, and almost certainly unique in this larger size.
The frame features Nervex Pro lugs, 531 Professional tubeset, and Columbus dropouts with mudguard eyes, 4-point rear carrier fixing to rear seat-stays, and centre-pull hanger and pulley for the rear-brake, and a handcut fancy fork-crown with round diadrant fork blades.
Looking at the condition the frame only appears to have been ridden a few times, and has only a few small cosmetic marks to the paint.
My friend decided after having seen some of my machines he wanted "to get into vintage bikes" but since acquiring the frame it has sat in his garage for several years, and he has now met a partner he is now moving away with to set-up a B&B business so is unlikely to ever ride this.
The frame is offered at £700 plus postage, which is the price that my friend paid. This represents a considerable saving on what this frame would cost to have built new, if indeed you could find somebody who is able to build this unusual and unique design.
