The Syncros stem looks to be a painted grey one to me (and late 90s GT era iirc, so not the early one).
Or am I looking at the wrong picture ?

I had one painted in the same gunmetal, as described on the box, in 1” size, which might help with dating it. So I’d say original paint

The originals are a gloss black, then they also added a polished silver stem.
Later they made them Matt black and introduced a grey stem which is what yours looked like.
I was just asking as you said it was an early silver, hence was it the correct picture I was looking at.
The hinged stem was a different style (hinged mountain stem iirc), it didn't replace the cattlehead.

(Slight Syncros history there, sorry)
