I started to think, that must be for a really hilly 25, but then spotted the picture with the distance ! 😳
Competition record didn't stand for long with the Queen stealing the King's Crown.... Roger Queen took it away.. not sure of the time?... sure Nob can fill us in with the details..👍

Big Roger held the 30 mile record in 1978 with a 1.2.7 & never broke Alf’s 25 Record. Pete Longbottom broke it in 1990 with 49.13.

Here is a replica of Roger Queens famous Chrome machine 😁

vcballbat,

I remember posting the Ebay link to that Alf Engers plate all those years ago and for the life of me I still don't know why I didn't just buy it myself!

If you ever want to part with it please give me first dibs.

Steve.

I still can't believe that it was posted for over a week without any interest. I should say thank you for posting and not buying it though... why not as I see you're a TT bike fan..? My first though was maybe stolen from Alf but after making contact with him it was never owned/ presented to him. My thinking is that it was either comissioned by Alf's club the Woolwich CC or the club that hosted the event to be presented at their annual 'Bun Fight'..maybe with Alf and his distain for authority or work commitments failing to show up. Probably then ended up in store for years before being entered into a job lot of silver plate sold at a Manchester auction bought by a Liverpool dealer who listed it on eBay.

I dithered over buying it, but in the end decided that it would probably just sit in a cupboard or a box somewhere, so I thought better that someone else should have it. But as I stated before I have regretted it ever since!

I am a massive TT bike fan, especially the Alf Engers/Drillium era, so I regularly keep a close eye out for any more Alf related items, but I think that plate will always be my 'one that got away'!
