Bar tape, what to do with the silly finishing tape supplied?

Regardless of brand, I've found the finishing tape supplied to be absolutely useless - too stiff, not sticky, both? I guess the solution is pretty common - electrical tape in whatever colour suits best.

Has anyone found any supplied finishing tape to be any good? And if not, have you used it for anything or just binned it (I'm loathe to do the latter but I have quite a (useless) stockpile  )?

i personally always use black electricians tape, with regards to the little bits of fancy tape i never use them for the same reasons you have stated but i have seen people use them on top of the electricians tape to give a nice finish but personally i think it still looks poo.

:)

i sometimes wrap em around hub centres, esp the red/white/green ambrosio ones to give a bit of contrast. Cheapy hubs mind, not the best ones.

As annoying as it is, I usually wrap my bars backwards, from the tops down. That way you don't need to use any tape to secure them because the bar ends stop the tape unravelling.

Me too. Any excess just gets stuffed in the ends of the bars; as a result, it banishes any problems with loose-fitting end plugs as well!

Always chuck it away and use electircal tape instead. It's usually hideous, covered in logo's and too plasticky to apply properly. Only ever kept the brooks cloth strips.

I used to wrap my tape backwards as well because I didn't know any better. It didn't matter until the thicker cork type tape came out and then I found it would curl up at the edges near the brake levers as I spend most of my time riding on the hoods. Since then I've done it "properly" and used electrical tape to finish off and hold the 'bar tape in place with the decorative stuff being just that. It usually peels off after a few rides but I've found the Fizik stuff on my work bike actually does seem to stick.
