balance 450 fs

He has been back over here but been busy with sorting stuff , so not sure if he has started yet

I'm back, but the bike is still in Grrmany. I'm hoping to pick it up later this year.
I am still struggling to get the rear sus freed up, my local engineering firm tried, but without using heat and frying the seals, which I couldn't find, it wasn't possible.
When I get the frame back over I will try again.

Its a shame to hear you are struggling but great to know its not been forgotten about.

Sounding more and more of a challenge by the minute!

So you are able to get the legs off the bike?

Presumably the rear suspension legs are built along the lines of a Manitou fork?

- Spring clip in a groove above the seal and a bolt at the bottom of the leg?

When you get the frame back maybe we should see if Team RetroBike can crack it... without, err, actually cracking it

Failing that, give up and sell it to me?

Hi folks
Sorry to dig this one up again but, being a Balance FS owner myself I'm interested to know of any other examples out there

I had the same problem of having one of the rear fork legs seized in place...seriously seized

If the current owner is yet to free up that stuck leg, perhaps I can offer some advice

You need to try to twist the inner and outer legs in opposite directions
Possibly by disconnecting the outer leg from everything and twisting it

Once I had mine opened up I removed the spring stack (which thankfully had not disintegrated) and cleaned all the greasy mud/gunk from inside, I could then see a couple of small corrosion spots which would have been responsible for the seized leg

A good clean and light sanding and they're as smooth (almost) as silk

Hey man,

No worries! Well done for digging this up!

I'm the current owner of this frame and it's untouched since the day I got it from UK Tyler

I'll dig it out sometime this week and have a play, see what I can apply from your experience to this frame and feedback

Thanks very much for taking the time to comment!

Welcome to RB!!

Just fitted some fresh elastomers this evening so I can't wait to try it out tomorrow (playing with my toys when I should be at Muay Thai class  )
