May be a moot point but anyhow...If they are the original mechanical, they are set-up for a 165mm rotor before the 160mm became standard. Not sure if that will help your problem as my older set (165mm rotor) mount as well as my new sets, and the old ones work on a 160mm rotor; just ride 2.5 millimeters high.

thanks for the info. The caliper seems to fit a 160 just right, but since the old one I had dismantled itself into all corners of my garage, I've ordered a new one which should be here in a few days
