Average cost of a fork service.

LBS Mechanic tells me Evans takes forks in them sends them off for you.
Sounds fair enough as ive not the time, nor inclination. Might be easier than packaging up yourself and posting.

Wondering the cost though, just the ball park figure of a seal/oil change
OK, not aware of the cost through evens if anyone can supply that.

I think TF is £99.

I used Evan's once. Bought a nos set of old fox float x and thought I'd get them serviced before using. The Evan's service appealed as I could drop off on the way to work.

Got them back, fitted and after first ride wear started to develop (first ride was a dry road commute of 5 miles).

I sent it back, and they wouldn't accept fault, and offered to fit a csu for free if I bought one from them.

I declined, and would not use them again. I learned to service forks myself as a result and have never had an issue.

Rsf suspension do a great job for far less than Evan's or tft. Around £40. You have to post them, but they post them back.

What forks Dyna? Used Flotec in Dunkeld a number of times as it’s an easy drop off and collect for me. Always been happy with service received.

Anything from about 30-40 quid for a clean up/lowers service up to about 120-130 quid for full strip down, new seals/valves resizing bushes etc.......... my last fork (top end fox, about 5 years old, major service, was £80)

Its a 150mm RS dual air revelation. Bought 2nd hand and cosmetically it is fine and i thought id done well. But in use im getting oil on one of the stanchions in use- meaning id think the oil seal is worn.
I dont have the time, nor inclination and sending it to be serviced by those with the correct tools,kit and knowledge seems the best move.

Incidentally flotech appears to be changing hands and arent taking orders.

When I asked a similar question, my LBS owner (who is known to many on here) recommended RSF.

I've yet to send my forks off, but he seems to have a fondness for older shocks & forks, and gets great reviews.

That’s a shame. I know they were away a lot over the summer working on the World Cup circuit with Fox, maybe something more permanent came up. Would explain the clearance sale they had not long ago.

This isn't usually damper oil, but lubrication oil from the slider and pretty normal (especially if the bike is hung by the front wheel). The damper in the Revelation is inside the right stancion, if the oil seal went there the fork would firstly stop locking out and secondly hydrolock part way through it's travel. The outer seals are only really these days something that stops the ingress of detritus into the internals, they don't keep anything in really. That said though a quick clean and oil change service will not hurt them at all and is something that's not hard to tackle on modern RS, Manitou and Marzocchi forks (I've done all 3 brands now), I can't say for Fox as I don't own any so haven't serviced them.

TBH Im clueless about the fork, and was obviously swayed by its clean cosmetics. I dont even know the exact age, maybe 2003 or 2007 or 9 :? info is scant, though not once its id'd obviously.

Because of that im unfamiliar with the controls, and it has lockout, but it appears to be remote operated only, because i cant rotate it to lock or unlock. I couldnt honestly say being unfamiliar with it how exactly it operates Im just not clued up on any modern fork.
I'l do a pic of the control knob, maybe you can explain how it works

If it helps, the oil coming out isnt clear, so whether its as you say lube from the slider lube and a bit of grime, or whether its a seal and its all internal oil I was hoping a simple service would sort out.

Its just I dont want to start, then discover im stumped or missing tools or cant continue in some way it will be left in bits, and i doubt a service company would touch it in bits.

I'll stick a chain back on the bike and give it a run, then post up the pics and you(DrC) can tell me your verdict.

Ride them and service them to schedule but dont worry too much to see a bit of lube oil or grime at the top of the seals, keep the stancions clean and service them regularly and you should be fine. You'll know if the seals go as the first thing to stop working will be the lockout.
