At what point does a frame stop being original Roberts?

Having seen this man's work in the flesh (so to speak!), I'd be happy buying it safe in the knowledge that it's been repaired properly, no mater how much original framework was left.
It's still a nice frame after all

Ah ha so you spotted option 2 would be my work. Yeah I have thought of building the whole front end. Basically because i dont have the skill to braze 753 so i woudl have no option.so would have to do it in Columbus nivachrom.

So i think:
option 1. is too expensive
Option 2. I will have a crack at
Option 3. Don't have the heart to bin it so may as well see if i can fix it.

I think I will refer to it as a Replica Roberts homarge, or maybe go full pug roberts replica. As only 4 of the 9 original tubes will be left defo not a roberts anymore.

Thanks for the imput guys. I will keep you posted of the progress here. http://omsbikes.yolasite.com/re-builds.php

Resto-Roberts

If your fortunate enough too have got the frame building skills to DIY the repair then why not?

As a back-up / compromise then send it over to Roberts for repainting--I guess they'd accept that? poss check the frame alingment for you?

ha,ha you should sample some things that go on in the motorsport world,Dad told me of a firm that will build you a brand new "historic" race car from the chassis plate!! and these were winning championships . Also I am 99% sure that you can claim a original Bugatti as long as you have three parts from it to build with.

Hmmmm back on topic as long as its declared if you sold it I dont see the issue, as mentioned before I doubt Chas would be doing the work himself so if you replace with original tubes what would the difference be? :?

If you wanted to move it on when the project was finished the ideal solution would be to keep a photo-diary of the work in progress then let any potential buyer make up their own mind... :?:

Roberts?

Roberts replica?

Roberts tribute?

I'd say if the repairs looked good in the photo's prior to painting, and the finished bike was a good reproduction of the original, then I'd have no qualms at paying a reasonable price for what is essentially a Roberts 'designed' bike at worst; no different to buying a high-end bike that is manufactured in the Far East to a 'Brands' specification...

Take it a step or two further. You have a bike that you've owned since new some 30 years ago. You maintain it fastidiously, replacing worn out original parts with exact replacements with the same date of manufacture. Since it has been used regularly for decades every part has been replaced, including all frame tubes. You even had a bottom bracket shell made with the same serial number stamped into it, to replace the rusted and gouged original. Your bike is exactly as how it was as new. And regardless of what needed to be done you were able to ride the bike every single day. Is this the same bike that you bought those years ago? What happens if instead of discarding the used parts you boxed them all, only to reassemble them into a complete bike? Which is that bike you bought new, the one that you never stopped using or that just recently assembled?

Well its done. my replica pug roberts rebuild:

Cabling and stem (which you mention you have) aside that looks great, the Peugeot lettering seems to be slightly italicised and thinner on the 'team' bike too but thats not a big deal as far as I can see - you are not claiming it is a works bike. Good job, that fork looks pretty similar to a Roberts one I have too.

Hi Rod,

Thanks for looking. do you have any pictures of your forks? I have some vintage 531 straight blades and I would love to make a better version.

Cheers
Pete
