So.....this turned up this morning
Advertised on here a few weeks back, no one seemed to pick up on it, and I was worried for a while that maybe it wasn't a real one, and everyone else knew that, and I was being stupid. But it's definitely genuine, so maybe it was the size that put folks off - 14.5" measured GT's way. (Thanks, by the way, to the seller Adam, 'mrmcqueen', for his patience while I asked stupid questions!)
Having had, as many of you will remember, the 16" dented Zaskar frame that turned out to be too big, as I always knew it would, and in the past having had a 12.5" Avalanche of the same era as this, which was always a tad too small, I'd never owned, but knew I needed, this size of GT. And really it would always have to be a '97 Zaskar, to fulfill a long held ambition, based on the fact I couldn't afford one when I got back into MTBing in that year....
Gave it a good degunk and polish, but left the tatty decals and a Race Face sticker on the NDS chain stay, as what I'm really aiming for is the look it would have if I'd owned it myself from new. Hence not worrying too much about modern tyres, etc, things would be upgraded or replaced over the years anyway.
Love the colour, must be rare? Thoughts please on the black or the blue bars, not really fair to ask as the blue ones don't look right without the controls on! And the seat post....thought they were always 27.2? But the very short one it came with is 27.0 and falls straight in, a 27.2 definitely won't go, although putting the bore gauge into the seat tube reveals 27.2 on some takes, and 27 on others!
As it arrived, before a clean up:
