Suzuki,
They just seem to have a knack for ENGINEERING vehicles that do a specific job very well.

ahh but their build quality's crap

would need to be somthing without electronics

series 1 landy's i'd say
You talk about poor build quality and then choose a landrover
I've off roaded suzukis in the past and you rarely see one leaving site not under it's own steam.
Most landys don't make lunch time with out needing a drive shaft or two.
Thats the point with suzuki, if you try to do things they're not made to do they don't like it. But they will do what they're intended to do with minimum fuss.
If landrover were the only manufacturer left I'd buy some hiking boots.

Ive never had a problem with Landrover quality ( touch wood!) but a series Landrover would be the choice due to the easy maintainence

honda is all good and well...but fiat are proven to be able to withstand apocalyptic conditions, after all a lada is just a rebadged 126.

and that's selling the idea to us?

Don't see many Ladas about...

Any car that can survive in the eastern block for 50 years has to be tough! you don't see many about because they are ugly as sin and prone to rusting...but in a post apocalyptic world thats the least of your worries I doubt it has to pass an MOT in this apocalyptic future? a car you can fix with bits of bailing wire, a hammer and a couple of screw drivers would be my choice.

The toyota hilux is a beast, but i assumed we were all running short on fuel in this post apocalypse world, a 2.5 litre diesel is great if you have the fuel.

Those little suzukis seem quite rugged, there was a top gear episode where they 4x4'd across south america..sj510? or something like that...they are worryingly thirsty though to consider it was a 1.3 litre engine, from memory i was getting about 13mpg

Citroen 2CV Dolly it has to be.

Has no electronics, has a dizzy cap, crazy mad suspension, can drive for miles on the smell of petrol (which will be in short supply), has a stripey roof, doors can come off with an allen key, a stearing wheel the size of a routemasters and its called 'Dolly'

Oh, and it has nudge bars!

If the atmosphere is polluted and poisoned, wont you need an NBC capable vehicle? I'd go with one of the major defence manufacturers like BAE when, before armageddon, they'll have bought out any remaining smaller defence manufacturers (from the top of my head they already have Hagglunds and Alvis) so will have the skill set to do it all under one roof.

I reckon I'd much rather be trolling around in a domestic equivalent of a BV206 than a Hilux (even though I've owned a few Hilux') in a world glowing green.
