Argos Cycles Refurb Identification??

Re:

I have a 78 argos that I spent a couple of years searching for it maker,... before it dawned on me it was an argos made frame from the '78.
On my frame, numbers where stamped on the rear dropout but that changed to the bb in the 80s.(which fooled me) The braizing on the the rear dropout looks very like mine.
I was surprised how long it took to get a reply to an email to argos, but martin Davies eventually confirmed mine as argos built on a Facebook page I'm a member of. I don't think they made many frames as the years went by so 22 could be possible for a later argos ?
Best of luck

So maybe yours was done by the boss himself Arthur Needham RIP

Thanks very much for the info! I haven’t seen too many Argos frames but the brazing at the rear dropout does look similar to the few I’ve seen. Sounds reasonably hopeful then in regards to it being an Argos frame which would be a nice surprise as I’d started to give up hope of finding out the maker. Is yours stamped with just the two digits 78?
I’ve sent off another email to Argos with the added info regarding serial number so hopefully get some more info soon. Thanks again for the reply :)

Re:

Mines a 5 digit number, in the early years there was the 1st 2 digits for the year then the frame number so there would have been 781, 7810 and mine 78110 that year.
Yours could be say 92 but just showing 2 and the second frame that year? It's not always as simple as you may 1st imagine.
Bear in mind I'm not saying it is argos.. but it warrants checking out with them

I'd like to think so, I know a few went to the usa, it was on a usa site that I recognised mine as being an argos.
It a very nicely made frame with shot in fastback seat stays, very clean top end workmanship.
It rides very nicely.
