On site I have sat wih truck drivers on this very topic of blind spots and when you sit in the seat you realise the blind spots. There are new regs re mirrors down the front bumper on trucks now.

On a truch with 36 gears I was told drop the clutch in 6th gear (artic) on an unladen truck so thats ~7mt - it just leapt forwards...didn't stall.
You would not notice a bike under there. :!:
 
As for the title of the thread I would say 'no' Having watched cyclists i would say that most london cyclist are looking to die ASAP.
Like London pedestrians they go around as if invisible to the dangers on the roads. Like using your eyes before you cross would help. Or stopping at a red light.
